NIH’s Validation Process

  • Flowchart showing what happens after NIH picks up your Application Package from Grants.gov

  • Be Proactive! Check your application status in NIH Commons
  • Errors must be corrected and the Application Package resubmitted to Grants.gov
  • Resubmitted packages must have a cover letter attached with explanation
  • Once your application appears in Commons, PIs have 2 business days to review it.
    Check NIH’s SF424 R&R assembly document explaining how your grant package
    will be assembled when it is loaded into Commons
  • Applications that are error-free need no further action and will be forwarded for review

NIH offers a Listserve for PI’s to provide periodic updates on its electronic grant application program. Send an email to sign up: Leave the subject line blank and send a plain text email message to Listserv@list.nih.gov including the words Subscribe NIH_eSUB_PI-L in the body of the message.
